Refuse to Retire
In this work, part of the Get Rid of It collection, the humble Superga is transformed into an object of near‑mythic endurance. Rendered at an imposing 84.1 × 59.4 cm, the drawing’s scale alone elevates the everyday sneaker into a monument of lived experience. The obsessive pastel‑pencil detailing captures every crease, stain, and scar with almost forensic devotion, suggesting a biography written in fabric and friction.
Rather than discarding the worn shoe, the artist immortalises it — a playful act of defiance that turns an object destined for the bin into a relic worthy of contemplation. It’s both satire and sincerity: a tribute to the things we outgrow, yet can’t quite let go of.
